Japan to discuss health insurance coverage for childbirth - P4H Network

Japan to discuss health insurance coverage for childbirth

In Japan, the government will begin comprehensive discussions on expanding public health insurance coverage to childbirth for fiscal 2026, as the current coverage generally does not cover childbirth costs.

The Health Ministry and the Children and Families Agency will establish a panel of experts to examine health insurance coverage for childbirth and related issues in June 2024.

Additionally, the government will consider implementing a uniform pricing system for childbirth support and related services at hospitals and other facilities to reduce child delivery expenses.

These are parts of government measures, aiming to address Japan‘s declining birth rate and nation’s strategy on demographic future.
