The KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme is set to host an insightful webinar on ‘What is health financing and how does Kenya finance its health system? Why the shift to SHIF and what are the implications’. The event, aimed at university students in Kenya, will take place on September 12th, 2024, from 2-4 PM EAT.
This webinar is part of the Programme’s University Engagement initiative, designed to enhance understanding of health research and foster discussions among the next generation of African researchers. The session will offer participants a deep dive into health financing in Kenya, covering the key aspects of the country’s current systems, the shift to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), and its broader implications for health policy and funding.
The event will be led by Robinson Oyando, PhD Fellow at the Health Economics Research Unit (HERU), KEMRI Wellcome Trust, and Zilper Audi-Poquillon, PhD Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Both experts will provide key insights into the evolution of Kenya’s health financing landscape and encourage dialogue on future reforms.
This is a unique opportunity for university students in Kenya to engage with experts, explore the intricacies of health financing, and gain a better understanding of how these systems impact public health outcomes in the country.
