Laos has authorized home recovery for mild COVID-19 patients

In Laos, the Ministry of Health has authorized Covid-19 patients who have mild symptoms to recover at home, aiming to secure the hospital beds for COVID-19 patients with severe conditions.

The criteria for home recovery patients are as follows:

  • Fully Covid-19 vaccination
  • A blood oxygen level of 95% or higher
  • A respiration rate lower than 25 breaths per minute
  • Experiencing no shortness of breath
  • Mild symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, or blocked nose
  • Age below 60 years without underlying conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, cancer, coronary heart disease, kidney disease and other diseases.
  • Not pregnant

In addition, COVID-19 patients who choose a home recovery need to ensure that they have a healthy household member who is available to take care of them during the recovery period. However, they need at least 14 day-home isolations from their families or household members.

A COVID-19 hotline “164” has been established to support the home recovery patients. COVID-19 patients could acquire information and advice from the medical personnel through the hotline. In addition, those who experience severe symptoms or breath difficulty during the home recovery must contact the hotline or emergency services immediately. To read more, please click.
