Greater investment and efficient health spending are needed to increase productivity and well-being of the population.
It presents the evolution of health systems financing over the last two decades, highlighting advances and identifying trends and challenges faced by States and their populations to improve their health conditions, productivity and well-being.
Despite the increase in health spending in Latin America, it is still below the world average. The region faces important challenges that require greater investment and efficiency in health spending. Timely and equitable access to innovative treatments must be guaranteed, preventive health programs must be strengthened and the diseases that most affect the population must be addressed.
