People in Latvia will maintain access to healthcare services in the framework of mandatory health insurance by 2021, regardless of insurance payments made. Recently the Latvian parliament passed as draft amendments to the Latvian Healthcare Funding Law in the final reading. According to the official explanation of the bill, formerly, the introduction of the so-called «two baskets» of healthcare services required a different approach to health insurance to people, who make mandatory state social insurance payments. The Latvian Health Ministry to preserve mandatory health insurance, additionally expanding the scope of persons, who are subjected to mandatory insurance. They would be all makers of mandatory insurance payments, as well as the part of the population that do not make state social insurance payments or are not subjected to mandatory state health insurance.
