From introducing health insurance for the Jordanian Armed Forces in 1963 to a full-fledged civilian health insurance programme amended as recently as January 2022, Jordan has come a long way in strengthening social health protection.
The Jordan country page now has a timeline outlining Jordan’s policy reform journey. It includes major developments like setting up the Social Security Council, the National Health Strategy and a host of other legislation that made the public sector the main healthcare provider in Jordan, financed through the national budget.
The Timeline is a visual attempt to provide a framework for understanding the present healthcare system in Jordan and will be updated periodically.
