Mali-RAMU: The Association of Free Doctors opts for rational prescriptions

The Association of Free Doctors of Mali organized on March 18, 2023 in Bamako a scientific day on “Rights and duties of free doctors, for rational prescribing within the framework of the RAMU”. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Health and Social Development.

According to Dr. Boureïma Afo Traoré, the Association of Free Doctors of Mali (AMLM) is a professional association whose vocation is to promote the medical profession, create real cohesion among professionals in the liberal sector in particular and in the health sector in general, and strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors. For its president, the structure created in 2006 forms and watches over liberal physicians in the respect and monitoring of the State’s health policy.

“We must adopt a set of provisions for a better transition towards the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU), a revolution, a dream already possible…From this dynamic, for a better transition towards the RAMU, it was imperative to organize, in collaboration with CANAM and INPS, a scientific day on the rights and duties of liberal doctors in Mali to rationalize the RAMU benefits. This day is an opportunity for all Malian liberal doctors to exchange and discuss with the main actors of duty and right in the highest sense of medical responsibility for a successful RAMU. “

According to the results of the actuarial study conducted in December 2014 by the Caisse nationale d’assurance maladie (CANAM), the weight of drugs in the expenses of the AMO Scheme represents nearly 80%. In addition, following a CANAM evaluation of prescriptions, the average cost of orders has increased from CFAF 3,000 to CFAF 25,000. Disfunctions observed in the context of the provision of services in general and the prescription of medicines and medical devices in particular.
