As of today, Mali has 87 infected patients. Sadly, this figure is set to rise in the days to come, if evil unrolls its merciless machinery there, as it has elsewhere, spreading mourning in its wake, instilling fear and anxiety everywhere, and battering even the strongest economies.
On April 10, 2020, the President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar KEITA addressed the Nation for the 3rd time, since the advent of Covid-19.
During his address, the Head of State announced measures to contain the pandemic and reassure the national economy.
These social measures will cost the Malian state nearly 500 billion francs (USD 837,153,320.00), in the low hypotheses.
And the President emphasized that all budget allocations would be reviewed: “The review will start at the top of the State” before continuing that:
“Investment priorities will also be reviewed. Resource mobilization will be more innovative. And the funds set aside will be scrupulously managed, under the supervision of the Head of Government. A special fund of 100 billion francs (167,430,664.00 USD) for the most vulnerable families will be set up, covering all of Mali’s 703 communes. Access to this fund, which will be managed in a collegial and transparent manner, will be conditioned by assessed and consensual vulnerability criteria”.
