In its 2nd (exit) phase that will end in June 2027, Moldova will receive a grant of over CHF 3.3 million from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to advance health financing and service delivery reforms.
The Ministry of Health of Moldova and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation signed a new agreement on the implementation of the second phase of the project “Progress towards universal health coverage in Moldova”. The project is titled “Progressing towards Universal Health Coverage in Moldova” and its phase 1 has been completed in 2017-2024.
In phase 2, to be realized in 2025-2027, the project will accompany the health authorities in advancing health financing and service delivery reforms, improving the efficiency and responsiveness of the healthcare system, promoting transparency and accountability in the health sector, and empowering service users and civil society organizations to oversee healthcare services, their quality and resource allocation.
Expected results from the second phase of the project:
- Enhancing the capacities of the health authorities in evidence-based policy- and decision-making, addressing the inadequate distribution of resources (financial, human, etc.) in the health sector, fragmentation of services, and limited access to affordable and good quality healthcare, esp. for vulnerable groups and in underserved areas.
- Scaling up to national level and institutionalization of social accountability tools and mechanisms in healthcare institutions; increased awareness and engagement of the civil society and service-users / patients across the country in promoting transparency and accountability in the health sector.
The project will be implemented by the World Bank and the Swiss Red Cross with grant financial assistance from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the Republic of Moldova in the amount of 3.355 million Swiss francs.
