Singapore: More subsidies for chronic patients under new Healthier SG

Healthier SG is a new, long-term reform healthcare plan for Singapore implemented by the Ministry of Health (MOH), aiming to promote preventive care. Healthier SG scheme has introduced a new program called Healthier SG Chronic Tier in 2024.

Starting from February 1, 2024, Singaporeans with chronic medical needs and enrolled with a general practitioner (GP) through Healthier SG will benefit from increased subsidies when choosing the Healthier SG Chronic Tier.

This initiative allows them to access specific common drugs for chronic disease management from their Healthier SG GP clinics at prices comparable to those at polyclinics. An enhanced subsidy for chronic medications at GP clinics for Healthier SG enrollees, including Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS), Pioneer Generation (PG), and Merdeka Generation (MG) cardholders.

These cardholders are eligible for means-tested subsidies, reaching up to 87.5% with no dollar cap, for specific chronic medications from their enrolled GPs. Additionally, they can benefit from annual subsidies of up to $360 for other costs of care, including consultations, laboratory tests, and other medications.

Furthermore, residents enrolled in the program with chronic conditions can utilize their MediSave savings, ranging from $500 to $700, to completely cover treatment costs at the enrolled primary care clinic, eliminating the 15% co-payment requirement.
