National Assembly opts for free healthcare for minorities

Victory for the million pygmies after the vote on a bill enshrining positive discrimination in favor of marginalized indigenous peoples .

This is the culmination of a long struggle by the Congolese civil society organization Dynamique des groupes des peuples autochtones (DGPA).

The law grants costly benefits to pygmies: free health care, free secondary schooling, etc. A national fund for the development of pygmies is to be set up to implement this law, which was passed by the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
