National Health and Social Welfare Financing Policy in Liberia - P4H Network

National Health and Social Welfare Financing Policy in Liberia

Recognizing that health and social care are key factors for human development, and in the context of a national strategy for social and economic growth, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Liberia led the development of a holistic National Policy and Plan for Health and Social Welfare, 2011-2021. It is designed to significantly improve the health and social well-being of the population now and in the future. In this context the development of a detailed guidance on how to finance and implement such approaches seemed necessary. The resulting first-ever National Health and Social Welfare Financing Policy and Plan (NHSWFPP) was established to monitor and standardize the finances to implement the National Health and Social Welfare Financing Policy 2011-2021 (NHSWPP). The overall objective of this financing policy is to ensure that health and social welfare services for the population of Liberia are affordable for the country, while preventing catastrophic budget expenditures.

Detailed information on the National Health and Social Welfare Financing Plan 2011-2021 which has been developed and published in 2011 can be found in the attached document.
