Over 6 million Kenyan mothers have benefitted since 2017 Linda Mama Program launch
The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has assured Kenyans that the government-funded Linda Mama program whose aim is to reduce maternal and child mortality and alleviate the financial burden of pregnant women is still undergoing. Currently the program has over 6 million mothers who have benefitted since its inception in 2017. The program offers a one-year cover for four antenatal visits, delivery, three postnatal care visits, and vaccines for the child. It also covers various conditions and complications incurred during pregnancy and offers both inpatient and outpatient services. NHIF urged the public to ignore misinformation circulating on social media about the program’s termination. The clarification came just days after the newly appointed NHIF Board Chairman, Michael Kamau, urged Kenyans to pay their monthly contributions on time in order to access timely services. The Linda Mama program was launched by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and has been applauded for its role in reducing child mortality in Kenya.
