In one of the areas most affected by malaria, Niger’s health authorities have opted to play the prevention card, with a precise, quantified target in mind. Tahoua has a population of over 4,650,000, with over a million reported cases of malaria, including 199 deaths. This assessment was drawn up by the regional director of health, who notes with bitterness an increase in prevalence in this part of Niger.
To put an end to malaria, the ministry in charge of public health is deploying major resources on two fronts: prevention and systematic, priority care for sufferers.
