Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the 2022 National Health Insurance bill into law

The Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, 19th May, 2022 announced that he signed into law the 2022 National Health Insurance bill. The President made the following remarks,

As part of our healthcare reforms, I have signed into law the recently passed 2022 National Health Insurance bill, which repeals the National Health Insurance Scheme Act. We will ensure the full implementation of the new Act, to provide coverage for all Nigerians.

The signing of the bill into law officially makes health insurance mandatory for all Nigerians. This will not only potentially increase access to health care but will also ensure that people are protected from financial burden of accessing health care.
