Press service of Azerbaijan’s President reported that on December 20, 2021, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a number of decrees to increase students’ stipends, social benefits and pensions. These changes aimed at improving social protection by the head of state will cover more than 732,000 people (about 7% of the total population), for which 200 million manat (equivalent to 117.7 million USD) is provided in the country’s budget.
The size of social benefits, scholarships and other payments in Azerbaijan has increased starting from January 1, 2022.
For example,
- age allowance will increase from 130 to 180 manats (by 38.5% from about 76.5 USD to 106 USD per month);
- allowance for persons with disabilities up to 18 years of age the will increase from 150 to 200 manats instead (by 33%);
- the benefit for the loss of the breadwinner will increase from 80 to up to 100 manats (by 25%);
- benefits for mothers with more than five children have been increased from 55 to 70 manats (by 27%);
- scholarships (stipends) for students of secondary specialized educational institutions increased from 60 to 90 manats (by 50%);
- the size of the presidential pension for scientists up to 200 and up to 300 manats, based on academic degrees;
- payments for honorary titles, such as for holders of the People’s merit title has grown from 150 manats to 180 manats, for holders of the Honorary title – from 100 to 120 manats.
