President Cyril Ramaphosa has affirmed the government’s determination to proceed with the implementation of the National Health Insurance (NHI), which aims to ensure that every citizen receives high-quality healthcare services, accurate diagnoses, and free treatment at the point of care. During his address at the second Presidential Health Summit held at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, Ramaphosa emphasized the need for the government to prioritize various essential areas, including funding, in order to achieve universal health coverage. Ramaphosa argued that pooling resources is necessary to provide access to quality healthcare for all, starting with the government allocating funds to health services that have experienced significant budget cuts in recent years. The President’s endorsement of the NHI bill demonstrates the government’s strong political commitment to achieving universal health coverage, an objective of utmost importance.
