The State has tried to boost the generic drug market as a way to contain the increase in out-of-pocket health care costs for Peruvian households.
The author refers to research conducted by Videnza Consultores that analyzes four key processes of the health system in Peru: financing, provision, stewardship and supply. He highlights that the availability of essential drugs in first and second level health facilities affects the different regions of the country unequally.
It also mentions that the effective coverage of the Essential Health Insurance Plan is insufficient, which generates an increase in out-of-pocket health expenses. The State has tried to promote the generic drug market, establishing the mandatory commercialization of a list of products.
