Reduced availability of medicines due to global maritime transport disruption - P4H Network

Reduced availability of medicines due to global maritime transport disruption

The Central Warehouse of Medicines and Medical Suuplies (CMAM) of Mozambique, in charge of the whole procurement and supply of medical supplies and medicines of the National Health Service, faces a period of reduced availability of medicines compared to previous years.

Alongside the traditional limited budgets, complemented by external funds for determined diseases, this year another factor is complicating the forecast and procurement of medicines and supplies.

The disruption of maritime transport due to reduced energy sources and minerals (needed for containers and pieces) has impacted in higher prices of transport, thus in reduced capacity to procure the meds and supplies required.

Locally produced medicines and imports from neighbouring South Africa can eventually improve this situation in the future.
