Senegal, several European institutions and countries, and the United States in particular, have announced the signing in Dakar of an agreement to finance the installation in this West African country of a production plant for vaccines against Covid-19 and other endemic diseases.
Construction of the vaccine production plant is due to start in 2021 at the latest, and 25 million doses of vaccine should be produced by the end of 2022.
The European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank, the United States, France, Germany and Belgium are to contribute to the financing of this operation, alongside the Senegalese government and other donors. Germany is to contribute 20 million euros ($23.7 million). The total amount of funding and all contributions were not specified.
