Situation Update: Response to COVID-19 in Indonesia (As of 1 March 2021)

Indonesia is procured more than 420 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine for 180 million people as of last month according to the Head of the COVID-19 Response and National Economic Recovery team (PCPEN). A breakdown of the procurement would reveal 125.5 million of the Sinovac vaccine, 52 million of Novavax, 54 million Covax / Gavi, 59 million of AstraZeneca, and 50 million doses of Pfizer.

The country is following a public-private partnership model for delivery of the vaccines where the ‘private vaccination scheme (Gotong Royong or Mandiri) will run alongside the national programme, following the Regulation by the Minister of Health’ (24 February 2021). More than 8000 companies have opted for the private scheme that is procuring the vaccines through PT Bio Farma and PT Kimia Farma.

Of the IDR 699.4 Trillion Budget for 2021, projected expenditure at health stands at IDR 176.3 trillion while Social Protection gets IDR 157.4 trillion with obvious focus on programmes on COVID 19 response.
