Smoking in Côte d’Ivoire: the annual cost of treatment amounts to 28 billion CFA francs

Over the next 20 years, tobacco-related illnesses will result in lost productivity and healthcare costs equivalent to Us$12,000 billion worldwide.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the government spends an average of 28 billion CFA francs a year on medical treatment for smoking-related illnesses.

For Lacina Tall, President of the Unesco University Committee for the Fight against Drugs and Other Pandemics (Clucod), tobacco remains a major scourge that must be fought with the utmost energy to spare young generations from its misdeeds and ravages.
