In an effort to achieve universal health coverage, the government of Sudan signed an EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration which ensures that Sudanese returnees access healthcare under the country’s National Health Insurance Fund. Similarly to other countries, aside from unemployment and access to housing, lack of access to healthcare is among the main issues faced by migrants who voluntarily return to Sudan. As such ensuring that the returning migrants are covered by national insurance will provide financial risk protection and enhance access to care for them and their respective families.
