Technical Note on Health System Financing in Colombia

The National Association of Colombian Businessmen (ANDI) and the Colombian Association of Integral Medicine Companies (ACEMI) presented a technical note to contribute to the debate on the financing of the healthcare system and its sustainability.

The health system in Colombia is financed by contributions from formal, dependent and independent workers and by national and local taxes.

Contributions represent one third of the financing sources and contributions from the National General Budget represent another third. The remaining third corresponds to the contributions of the Territorial Entities, through the General Participation System (SGP) and other own resources.

It should be noted that if all sources of financing are constant, it is the contribution from the National General Budget that should grow at the rate that allows financing the growing expenditure.
