TOGO: Reducing neonatal mortality: details of the “Wezou” program

The Togolese government launched the “Wezou” program this week.

This is a specific program dedicated to the care of pregnant women and newborns. It is intended to anticipate the universal health insurance program and significantly reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.

The program offers a basket of pregnancy care services, from prenatal consultation (CPN) to simple delivery and cesarean delivery. For pregnancies with a normal delivery, the ceiling is 14,265 FCFA. It covers four ANCs, pharmacy costs and the delivery procedure.

The type 2 package, estimated at 53,900 F CFA, covers pregnancies that will result in a surgical complication. It also covers four ANCs, pharmacy costs and Caesarean delivery. Expenses not included in the health care basket are the responsibility of the pregnant woman.
