Towards the CSU: Lessons from Tunisia, prospects for Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire

On November 14, 2023, a webinar will be held entitled: “CSU: lessons learned from the Tunisian journey – Regards croisés du Sénégal et de la Côte d’Ivoire.” This virtual meeting provides an opportunity to explore a benchmark in the field of social health protection, that of Tunisia, while benefiting from the perspectives of two West African countries, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.

Today, almost 85% of the Tunisian population is covered by a system of contributory and non-contributory health insurance schemes. This coverage is the result of a long process, structured in stages and influenced by national economic and political developments. However, despite this progress, major challenges remain, particularly in terms of financial protection. In Tunisia households still face catastrophically high levels of healthcare expenditure(16.7% in 2015).

During this webinar, the key stages of Tunisia’s journey towards the CSU will be analyzed by a leading expert: Dr. Benabbes, a key player in health insurance reforms in Tunisia since the 1970s.

The discussion will be enriched by contributions from experts from Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, including Serge Mayaka, the P4H focal person for Côte d’Ivoire, who will share their insights and lessons learned from the Tunisian experience. Through this cross-disciplinary approach, this webinar aims to highlight concrete courses of action for other African countries seeking to progress towards CSU.

Why take part?

CSU issues directly affect public policy, the well-being of populations and national economies. This webinar represents a valuable opportunity for decision-makers, healthcare professionals, academics and civil society players to deepen their understanding of social health protection and health insurance strategies. Participants will discover inspiring models and practical tools for progress in their own national contexts.

See you on November 14, 2023 for a richly informative exchange!
