Turkmenistan proposed to establish a Central Asian Center for Epidemiology

The President of Turkmenistan proposed the creation of the Central Asian Regional Center for Epidemiology, Virology and Bacteriology on August 6, 2021, during a Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, held in the city of Turkmenbashi.

This meeting was attended by the President of Kazakhstan, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, President of Tajikistan, President of Turkmenistan and the President of Uzbekistan.

Opening the forum, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked the distinguished guests for visiting Turkmenistan to discuss solutions on issues of regional development.

The Turkmen leader reminded of the long-term mutual support and solidarity among participating countries, including the times of a common global threat – a new type of coronavirus infection. Despite the long-staning denial of COVID-19 epidemic in the country, Turkmenistan’s head of state acknowledged that the fight against the pandemic requires a systematic and professional approach to addressing issues that directly affect the risks caused by COVID-19.

The President of Turkmenistan proposed to intensify contacts between the medical communities of the countries in the region through scientific diplomacy and to begin studies on coronavirus diseases, methods of treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.
