“ Les Rendez-vous de l’Expertise: What solutions are needed to achieve sustainable and effective Universal Health Coverage? “, brought together experts, practitioners and players committed to strengthening social protection on June 4, 2024 for a high-level symposium on the challenges of CSU in North Africa.
This event was an opportunity to highlight the achievements ofExpertise France ‘s partners and their remarkable efforts to make progress on national issues whose scope extends beyond borders and bilateral relations. These exchanges provided a forum for discussing issues that resonate not only on the regional scale of North Africa and the African continent, but also on a global scale.
Morocco exemplifies this approach with an ambitious reform launched by His Majesty the King in July 2020, aimed at universalizing social protection by 2025. The first step was to generalize compulsory health insurance (AMO) by the end of 2022. This unprecedented legislative reform integrated the entire population (except civil servants and special schemes) into the general scheme, tripling the number of people covered by the Caisse Nationale de Sécurité Sociale (CNSS).
Tunisia has made healthcare and its financing a national priority. On April 7, 2021, the government adopted the National Health Policy (PNS) after a participatory dialogue on Universal Health Coverage (CSU). This policy aims to strengthen the healthcare system and ensure equitable, high-quality access for all.
Over the past ten years,Egypt has paid increasing attention to health issues as a means of promoting equity and renewing the social contract in the wake of the Arab Spring. This approach is embodied in the Vision 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy. Today, Egypt is moving towards CSU through comprehensive healthcare reform and the launch of Universal Health Insurance (UHI). The Egyptian Health Authority (EHA) is responsible for the implementation and delivery of services, while the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) manages the financial aspects, and the General Authority for Health Care Regulation and Accreditation (GAHRA) regulates and accredits health care providers.
