Vaccination coverage in Côte d’Ivoire: over 200 billion USD invested by GAVI

Côte d’Ivoire’s top health official praised the excellent partnership between his country and Gavi. He pleaded for this collaboration to continue even after the transition out of eligibility, so that the country can continue to capitalize and avoid stock-outs.

The discussions between Minister Pierre N’gou Dimba and the executive director of Gavi Alliance for Vaccination, a review of progress made by the Ivory Coast in the field of vaccines, and the official invitation from this major financial partner of Côte d’Ivoire in the health sector to take part in the high-level meeting on the transition out of Gavi’s funding eligibility, scheduled to take place in the Ivorian capital in 2024.

Côte d’Ivoire was one of the very first countries to benefit from Gavi support in 2000. Over the past 20 years, Gavi has invested more than $200 million in various types of support to help Côte d’Ivoire with its immunization program. From 2009 to 2021, Côte d’Ivoire will introduce 09 new vaccines to its Expanded Program on Immunization, including the Covid-19 vaccine. In addition, the country is preparing to introduce, next July 2024, the malaria vaccine.
