In November, 2021, the government of Tanzania announced that the much-awaited universal health Insurance coverage bill was in the final preparation stages after going through all requisite processes. However, plans to table it during the September 2021 parliament session failed. According to the minister of health, community development, gender, elderly and children, Dr Dorothy Gwajima, the bill is has taken long to be tabled because it had to pass through a lot of stages to ensure precision and accuracy including ministerial stages, permanent secretaries, the cabinet and the parliamentary constitution and legal affairs Committee.
The minister assured the public that the bill is scheduled to be tabled in parliament in the near future.
