On 21 December 2023, a workshop celebrating Universal Health Coverage Day 2023 was held at Hotel Cambodiana, Phnom Penh. This workshop aimed to raise awareness of UHC 2030 among key stakeholders in Cambodia.
The workshop was held by Khmer HIV/AIDS Activists NGO Alliance (KHANA) Cambodia and Health Action Coordinating Committee (HACC), supported by the P4H Network, the global network for social health protection and health financing, and Global Fund Advocates Network Asia-Pacific (GFAN-AP).
The workshop celebrated Universal Health Coverage Day 2023 and aimed to raise awareness of UHC 2030 among civil society organizations and foster discussion among them and health care professionals, development partners and government representatives on improving access to health care services in Cambodia.
Associate Professor Bun Samnang, chief of the health economics and financing office at the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, presided over the workshop. He provided insights on the government’s progress and ongoing policies aimed at enabling Cambodia to meet its universal health coverage (UHC) targets by 2030.
Discussion during the workshop highlighted increased local funding needs for health care services, the shortage of health care professionals at the local level, the role of technology in improving health care delivery, the importance of community engagement in promoting UHC, and the need to design policy and programme interventions that build gender equity and inclusion in the health system.
