Workshop on Public Social Health Insurance Design for Mozambique

An Inter-Ministerial Workshop was held in Maputo from 12th to 14th September, 2018, with the objective of aligning perspectives and start designing options for a possible Public Social Health Insurance. Over 30 participants from different Ministries included in the Inter-Ministerial Health Insurance group participated.

ILO brought the expertise of two renowed specialists, Luis Bernardo Sáenz and José Pacheco, who analysed advantages and disadvantages of different Health Insurance models. The Costa Rican model was extensely exposed, highlighting a 100% coverage of the population and 75 years of evolution. Special attention was given to the Mozambican case, with 80% of informal economy and 50% and a specific demographic and epidemiological context.
