The implementation of free healthcare measures for women and children under 5 living in Burkina Faso began on April 02, 2016 in three regions (Centre, Hauts-Bassins, Sahel) and rolled out nationwide from June 1, 2016. This implementation was underpinned by the “learning by doing” method. Indeed, the official documents and texts for implementing the strategy currently boil down to the decree instituting the measures, the order covering eligible expenditure and a few application directives. So, after a year of implementation, and based on the lessons learned, it appeared necessary to translate the strategy’s vision, orientations and management mechanisms into other official documents. A working group made up of the various technical departments at central level has been set up and has drawn up a number of documents and texts.
The next step in the strategy documentation process is to validate these documents and texts. It is with this in mind that the Health Establishments Department is organizing this validation workshop, prior to transmission for adoption to the office of the Minister of Health and the Council of Ministers.
