Workshop to launch and plan the 2nd phase of the support program for Chad's health districts - P4H Network

Workshop to launch and plan the 2nd phase of the support program for Chad’s health districts

From January 24 to 25, 2019, the Ministry of Public Health organized jointly with the Swiss Cooperation Office a planning workshop for the second phase of the support program for health districts in Chad. The workshop brought together state institutions, technical and financial partners and provincial and local authorities.

For Mahamat Hamid Ahmat, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Public Health, who presided over the opening ceremony, the PADS aims to strengthen the governance of the health system in order to improve maternal and child health, accelerate the process of universal health coverage and prevent epidemics.

The PADS will support the efforts of the ministry in charge of health, just as it will contribute to raising technical standards and the quality of care, by ensuring equitable access to health services for priority populations such as women, children and marginalized populations, he maintained.

According to the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Public Health, the PADS program is considered by the Ministry to be a model program in view of the achievements obtained, as demonstrated by the external evaluation of the first phase 2014-2018, which has just been completed.

As a reminder, PADS is a program entirely financed by the Swiss Cooperation. There are two provinces : Moyen-Chari and Batha, with a population of over 1 million. PADS aims to improve the performance of the Chadian healthcare system by developing a governance model in health districts to support the process of universal health coverage in Chad.

The 2nd phase of the PADS officially began on November 1, 2018.
