Towards universal health coverage (UHC) in Uganda: A multi-sectoral approach
Uganda’s goal for UHC is to provide at least 65% of its population quality healthcare and financial protection by 2030. However, at 44% coverage in 2018, the country is far from reaching that goal. This policy brief analyses the low performance on UHC and makes a case for a multisectoral approach to UHC in Uganda; undertaking health financing policy reform and the National Health Insurance Scheme; re-focusing on functionalizing existing health facilities; addressing the critical human resource gaps; and increasing investment in prevention and treatment of Non-Communicable Diseases.
