Philippines supports and participates in regional health financing events including the Joint Network of Senior Budget and Health Officials on Fiscal Sustainability of Health Systems for the Asia Region held in Tokyo in May 2017 and SEARO-WPRO Bi-regional Health Financing Policy Workshop held in 2016 and 2017. These regional events aimed to enhance knowledge and best practices on health financing and social protection reforms and discuss technical and policy issues and options for countries to make progress towards UHC. Philippines supports P4H platform to facilitate country specific policy and technical discussions on health financing and social protection reforms and best practices in the regional context and learn from each other. The main focus among others that the country aims to further address is to increase financial risk protection and reduce catastrophic health expenditure incidence caused by high out-of-pocket payments. This would involve strengthening of the Philippines National Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), public finance management and provider payment reforms. P4H partnership opportunities were discussed with Philippines officials during the Bi-regional event in New Delhi in June 2017.
