Health policy has been shaped through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npc.gov.bw\/national-development-plans\">National Development Plans,<\/a> emphasizing the role of health in socioeconomic development. The first <a href=\"https:\/\/p4h.world\/en\/documents\/national-health-policy-towards-a-healthier-botswana\/\">national health policy<\/a>, introduced in 1995, prioritized primary health care, decentralization and community involvement. As of 2021, public sector financing accounts for <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.who.int\/nha\/database\/country_profile\/Index\/en\">76.5%<\/a> of current health expenditure. PPPs aim to harness private sector expertise and resources for infrastructure investments and service delivery<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/p4h.world\/en\/documents\/improving-efficiency-to-achieve-health-system-goals-in-botswana\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improving efficiency in health spending:<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Reforms focused on improving the efficiency of public health care spending have also been prioritized. This includes better financial management, decentralizing health services to regional and district levels and enhancing accountability mechanisms<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/p4h.world\/en\/?post_type=documents&amp;p=987729822\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expanding access to primary health care<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Botswana recognizes that strengthening primary health care (PHC) is essential to advancing UHC.
