The country gained independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 1966 and had a population of 804,600 in 2021.<sup><a href=\"#1\">[1] <\/a><\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/p4h.world\/en\/documents\/constitution-of-the-cooperative-republic-of-guyana\/\">Article 24 of the constitution<\/a> states, \u201cEvery citizen has the right to free medical attention and also to social care in case of old age and disability\u201d. General government expenditure on health (GGHE-D) was 71.7% of CHE in 2022.
