This planned reform is outlined in the Health White Paper to be presented to the Parliament in mid of 2023. The White Paper reform is expected to strengthen Malaysia’s health system to ensure equity, affordable, quality of healthcare services, and most importantly, sustainability of health system financing. It would mean to further improve the health system funded by government subsidies via taxation. At the same time, other sources of financing for health care such as national health insurance will be considered and explored following the pass of the White Paper[6] .[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”TEXT – BLOCK 9 – Footnotes” _builder_version=”4.21.0″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”13px” custom_margin=”20px||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]References

[1] World Bank Group, Population, total – Malaysia

[2] World Bank Group, Current health expenditure (% of GDP) – Malaysia

[3] World Bank Group, Out-of-pocket expenditure (% of current health expenditure) – Malaysia

[4] World Bank Group, Catastrophic out-of-pocket health spending

[5] Protect Health

[6] The Edge Markets[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Malaysia is an upper middle-income country in Southeast Asia with a population of 33.6 million in 2021[1].
