Solomon Islands is an archipelago composed of more than 900 islands grouped in nine provinces situated in the Pacific \u201cring of fire.\u201d\u00a0 Its location makes the country extremely prone to natural\u00a0 disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Life expectancy increased from 57 in 1990 to 68 years in 2014. There has been a marked decline in the prevalence of malaria and tuberculosis, and overall immunization coverage has improved but remains variable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][ba_gradient_heading title=”Double burden of disease demands increased investment in health systems” html_tag=”h3″ primary_color=”#455A64″ secondary_color=”#455A64″ admin_label=”HEADING (50-60 characters)” _builder_version=”4.21.0″ _module_preset=”default” title_font=”||||||||” title_font_size=”26px” title_line_height=”1em” custom_padding=”15px||10px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/ba_gradient_heading][et_pb_text admin_label=”TEXT – BLOCK 2 ” _builder_version=”4.21.0″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||1em||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]With a relatively low reported under-five mortality rate of 28 per 1000 live births and a neonatal mortality rate of just over 12 per 1000 live births in 2015, the country is well-positioned to make progress towards the health-related Sustainable Development Goals\u00a0 by 2030. The out-of-pocket-payment is low at 3.8% of CHE, but the health expenditure by external sources is high at 15% of CHE. Following a decade o<\/span>f substantial external financing to the health sector, external funding began\u00a0 to decline.
