UHC2030<\/a> has published the State of Universal Health Coverage Report 2023 on UHC Day to reflect on where countries have health high in their political agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A summary of the key findings of the review based on the eight action areas from the UHC2030 UHC Movement Action Agenda<\/a>:\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n

  1. Ensure political leadership beyond health:\u202f<\/strong>Most countries recognize UHC as a goal but have not taken\u202fconcrete operational steps to achieving UHC.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  2. Leave no one behind:<\/strong>\u202fVulnerable individuals and groups continue to face financial and structural barriers to\u202faccessing the health services and commodities they need.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  3. Legislate and regulate:\u202f<\/strong>While 89% of countries have made UHC a central goal in their national health policy\u202fplans and strategies, 41% have enacted UHC laws to ensure equitable, affordable access to health services.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  4. Uphold quality of care:<\/strong>\u202fThe global shortage of health and care workers, lack of support for the health and care\u202fworkforce and inadequate health-care resources remain challenges to providing effective, safe, people-centred care for all.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  5. Invest more, invest better:<\/strong>\u202fDespite continued increases in overall health expenditure for the COVID-19\u202fresponse, governments\u2019 current investment commitments and public spending for health are inadequate to\u202fachieve UHC.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  6. Move together:<\/strong>\u202fFew countries have a formal, effective accountability mechanism for UHC, with inadequate\u202fmultistakeholder engagement.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  7. Gender equality:\u202f<\/strong>Although women represent the majority of the health and care workforce, there is lack\u202fof commitment to achieving gender equality in the health and care workforce and to increasing women\u2019s\u202frepresentation in overall political leadership for health.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  8. Emergency preparedness:\u202f<\/strong>Countries do not invest sufficiently in health systems strengthening based on primary health care to achieve UHC and health security.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
