The sustainability of the Colombian health system is a critical element for maintaining the progress achieved in health financial protection and health service coverage.
There is pressure to increase health spending due to the adoption of new technologies, the aging population and the growing demand for services.<\/p>\n

It presents expert analyses related to the context, the challenges of financial sustainability and the institutional framework, highlighting the State’s obligations in the financing of the health system.
It also analyzes the financing of the benefit plan, the sufficiency of resources, and the financing of technologies financed through the maximum budget mechanism.
Some considerations on the reform proposed by the government are included.<\/p>\n

It is concluded that the system has important opportunities for improvement in terms of effective access, especially in marginal areas and remote regions; in terms of efficiency in the use of resources, due to the lack of incentives for care and services to be oriented towards producing health results; and other aspects related to governance, financing and insurance improving.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
