{"id":987521027,"date":"2021-12-08T02:59:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T01:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/p4h.world\/news\/the-small-countries-initiative-leaders-discussed-universal-health-coverage-and-lessons-learnt-from-the-pandemic\/"},"modified":"2023-03-02T09:56:48","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T08:56:48","slug":"the-small-countries-initiative-leaders-discussed-universal-health-coverage-and-lessons-learnt-from-the-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/p4h.world\/en\/news\/the-small-countries-initiative-leaders-discussed-universal-health-coverage-and-lessons-learnt-from-the-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"The Small Countries Initiative leaders discussed universal health coverage and lessons learnt from the pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to WHO\/Europe, the <strong>Small Countries Initiative (SCI)<\/strong> took the floor during the 71st session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (RC71) in a side event dedicated to <strong>sharing lessons learned on COVID-19.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Protection from <strong>emergencies<\/strong>, <strong>universal health coverage<\/strong> and <strong>healthier populations<\/strong> were the main themes on which ministers and SCI focal points made their voices heard, reports WHO.<\/p>\n<p>Many issues were identified that the SCI will soon begin working on, within the context of the <strong>SCI Roadmap.<\/strong> These include primary health care, supporting the health workforce, <strong>health financing<\/strong>, access to medicines, innovation beyond just technology, involving other actors such as civil society and academia, healthy tourism, and equity and vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n<p>In the context of building back better, small countries may be able <strong>to reinvent themselves faster<\/strong> in recovery than bigger countries. Indeed, small countries<strong> are laboratories for innovation<\/strong> and can join forces to negotiate on issues of common concern and to share experiences. They are a unified group of countries which will continue to work together to help each other in their common challenges&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The 8th high-level meeting of the SCI is planned for <strong>summer 2022<\/strong> in Montenegro.
