{"id":987524373,"date":"2021-11-03T03:35:06","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T02:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/p4h.world\/news\/25-mln-adb-grant-approved-for-tajiskistan-for-covid-19-vaccines\/"},"modified":"2023-03-02T10:16:02","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T09:16:02","slug":"25-mln-adb-grant-approved-for-tajiskistan-for-covid-19-vaccines","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/p4h.world\/en\/news\/25-mln-adb-grant-approved-for-tajiskistan-for-covid-19-vaccines\/","title":{"rendered":"25$ mln ADB grant approved for Tajiskistan for COVID-19 vaccines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<strong> Asian Development Bank (ADB)<\/strong> has approved a <strong>$ 25 million grant <\/strong>to help the Government of Tajikistan procure and implement <strong>COVID-19 vaccines<\/strong> and strengthen the country&#8217;s capacity to implement the vaccination program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCOVID-19 vaccines save lives and are vital to accelerating economic recovery in Tajikistan and elsewhere,\u201d said ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa. \u201cThrough this project and working closely with Tajikistan&#8217;s development partners, ADB is reaffirming its commitment to helping the country overcome the pandemic and restore normalcy as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The project will support the implementation of <strong>Tajikistan&#8217;s National COVID-19 Vaccination Plan. <\/strong>It will finance the procurement and delivery of about<strong> 3 million doses <\/strong>of vaccine<strong> <\/strong>with safe disposal containers and syringes for more than <strong>1.3 million people<\/strong> from priority groups, or about 1<strong>4% <\/strong>of the population. The government intends to vaccinate about <strong>62.5%<\/strong> of the total population &#8211; people over 18 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The project will also finance international and national logistics to transport vaccines from the point of purchase to national, regional and district health facilities. ADB will engage the United Nations Children&#8217;s Fund (UNICEF) as a procurement agent for the turnkey contract.<\/p>\n<p>The project will strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan <strong>to effectively manage the vaccination program <\/strong>and conduct <strong>awareness-raising campaigns and trainings<\/strong> taking into account gender and age factors.
