It is expected that countries allocate a vaccine indemnification fund for procuring COVID-19 vaccine form the COVAX facility that essentially gives indemnity to vaccine makers if their COVID-19 shots cause adverse side-effects but more importantly secures treatment for its citizens in the case of such consequences.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Philippines was the last to create such a fund <\/span>in the last week of February when President Duterte signed the bill into law. The Congress allocated P500 million (USD 10.26 million) from the national government\u2019s <\/span><\/span>P13-billion contingent fund<\/span><\/a> <\/span>to create the <\/span> COVID-19 National Vaccine Indemnity Fund<\/span><\/a> <\/span>that will<\/span> <\/span>compensate for adverse effects leading to hospital confinement, permanent disability or death.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has been tasked with administering the fund to compensate patients, issuing guidelines, utilization and determining sufficiency. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
