Benin’s public health professionals are holding a meeting this Monday, November 8 at the Palais des Congr\u00e8s in Cotonou, to discuss the country’s plan to generalize health insurance.<\/p>\n
Called “B\u00e9nin sant\u00e9 2021” (Benin Health 2021), the meeting is organized by Benin’s private health sector platform (PSSP) and the association B\u00e9nin Sant\u00e9 +, and sponsored by the Ministries of Health and Social Affairs. Participants are expected to decide on the private sector’s contribution to achieving universal health insurance coverage, but some patients are already benefiting from the health insurance scheme. <\/strong>financed by the State.<\/p>\n “Since August 15, 2019, the health centers in this health zone (Ed, Godomey) are implementing this project, and the first targets are these people, who don’t have the means to treat themselves when they fall ill,” explains Dr Rodrigue Kohoun, medical coordinator of the Abomey Calavi SoAva health zone.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n From January 1 2022, health insurance will be compulsory in Benin. Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is currently in its pilot phase.<\/p>\n\n
