2020 presidential election: Nine candidates pledge to reduce inequality in Burkina Faso<\/p>\n
At a signing ceremony held this Friday, September 25, 2020, nine candidates in the November 22 presidential election pledged to implement, if elected, ten sets of recommendations to help reduce inequality in Burkina Faso.<\/p>\n
They include Tahirou Barry, Ambroise Farama, Monique Y\u00e9li Kam, Eddie Kombo\u00efgo, Kadr\u00e9 D\u00e9sir\u00e9 Ou\u00e9draogo, No\u00ebl Gilbert Ou\u00e9draogo, Abdoulaye Soma, Roch Kabor\u00e9 and Z\u00e9phirin Diabr\u00e9 (the latter two were represented).<\/p>\n
The initiative comes from a coalition of some thirty civil society organizations led by the Secr\u00e9tariat Permanent des Organisations Non Gouvernementales (SPONG), the Association des Femmes Juristes du Burkina Faso, the Balai Citoyen and the Conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration Paysanne du Faso. It benefits from the support of Oxfam and the financial backing of the Royal Danish Embassy through the Danida program.<\/p>\n
Among the 10 measures proposed by this coalition are free, high-quality, universal public education for all, with a focus on pre-school education, technical education and vocational training; the establishment of a health and social protection system that reduces the gap between the richest and the poorest; and the introduction of more progressive tax policies.<\/p>\n
