The 168,045 people who were treated in a public hospital stopped paying a total of around 5,600 million pesos (equivalent to US$ 6 million) out of pocket in the first month of implementation, since their care was completely free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>FONASA&#8217;s Zero Copayment, which recently came into effect in Chile, contributes to people&#8217;s welfare and benefits important segments of the population under 60 years of age from the poorest economic strata.
