The objective of the training was to enhance NHIMA\u2019s staff’s internal capacity for monitoring the scheme\u2019s performance, particularly in light of the ongoing pilot project of extension of coverage to the beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer.<\/p>\n

NHIMA serves as Zambia\u2019s public health insurance provider, tasked with leading Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) efforts through the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Its responsibilities include providing access to quality healthcare services through strategic purchasing arrangements with accredited public and private health facilities. NHIMA is also mandated to extend coverage to vulnerable populations, with the current pilot initiative aiming to enroll about 16,000 households in the scheme, with contribution subsidies supported by the Global Fund.
