Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has instructed officials to commence the second phase of Egypt\u2019s universal health insurance rollout, beginning with Minya in Upper Egypt. At a recent meeting, readiness was reviewed for five governorates\u2014Minya, Matrouh, Damietta, Kafr El-Sheikh, and North Sinai\u2014serving over 12 million people, while the inclusion of Alexandria is undergoing financial assessment.<\/p>\n

Noting the private sector\u2019s interest in Alexandria, Madbouly stated its participation will depend on completed financial studies. Authorities highlighted Alexandria\u2019s advantages in medical infrastructure and resources, and actuarial studies indicate the financial capacity to cover the governorate if approved. So far, 5.1 million people in six governorates have enrolled with an 85% registration rate.<\/p>\n

Implementation steps for Minya were detailed, focusing on ready healthcare facilities including those from the \u201cDecent Life\u201d initiative. The meeting also addressed the automation process for the first-phase governorates, operational challenges, and reviewed policy frameworks for effective governance of the health insurance system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
